What's your Dragonfly story?
What's your Dragonfly story?
The dragonfly isn’t mine. It never meant anything significant to me. As Leah started her healing journey it became hers.
When the movie was released it resonated with people of all ages and backgrounds. They loved the symbolism of the dragonfly and it made them reflect inward.
After the book was published and started gaining attention, people would come up to me and excitedly tell me they saw a dragonfly. The first few times I thought it was neat. Then it would happen more and more. People would not just tell me they saw a dragonfly, they would explain the circumstances. They would share a story, their story, of what the dragonfly meant to them. Sharing their story helped process their grief.
Leah’s story has grown, and the dragonfly has now become everyone’s. Even mine. I am honored and proud to be the bearer of the dragonfly torch and to carry it forward until it is someone else’s turn.
At my in person events I encourage people to share their dragonfly stories with me. Who is your dragonfly? What reminds you of them? I even ask them to decorate cards depicting their story. Below are a few examples of others people’s “dragonfly stories”. I hope you will read them and take them in. I hope they make you think of the dragonflies in your life and how you are reminded of yours every day.

“Pink sunsets have always made me feel like Kim is reaching out. This summer I was seated at her memorial bench by the beach, captivated by the most vibrant pink sunset I’d seen in a long time, and I felt her presence more strongly than ever. Just then a single dragonfly, a rare sight, flew by.”
“I’m a firm believer of synchronicities from the Universe… be it a rabbit or white butterfly (I think of my late mom)… and now because of this book, it put a smile on my face when I was trail running and saw a dragonfly whirl around me. I won’t look at a dragonfly without thinking of this touching story.”
“Years after my best friend passed, I had an incredibly vivid dream. I heard her voice for the first time since her death. While walking down the beautiful boardwalks, I was lost in memories and reminiscing in the sounds of her laughter. Two dragonflies appeared out of nowhere and hovered in front of me."
